Blog 76 Move Passed Stress

Stress is something we all experience. It can be the momentary stress as you start an interview or say a speech.  It can be the long term stress of trauma that haunts you. It can be a fleeting thing or ever present or debilitating.

Stress can also be a good thing. It helps us grow. Stress on bones and joints help them to build strength. Small amounts of fear and stress do the same for us emotionally.  It can however change your life and keep you stuck where you are.

Having been assaulted in 2001 I understand fear and stress. I understand how fear and stress lurk around every corner. The "fight or flight" response when turned on all the time is hard. I get it. Getting the stress under control is important. Suffering digestive upset and all that goes along with stress needs to be addressed as quickly as possible. Below are the natural solutions that I found to help me on my road to renewal.

Regardless of your variety of stress, there are natural solutions to help.

  • Frankincense: My best friend. Apply to the bottom of your feet when you feel the need to relax and balance your mood. There is a touch point for every part of your body in your feet. Over your heart is also a good place. Sometimes I just smell it out of the bottle, but it is always in my diffuser. ( For some diffuser blends check out this blog)

  • Vetiver: Has an amazing grounding aroma, and is the perfect oil to add to your diffuser. You can also use it topically to calm the mind. I found it invaluable to use at bed time to shut down my thinking and actually sleep. Combine it with Lavender, doTERRA Serenity®, or doTERRA Balance® to enhance the effects and get a better sleep.

  • AromaTouch® Massage Blend: If you’ve never experienced an AromaTouch Hand Technique, now may be the time to try. If you are near to the Toronto area let's get together. You and a friend can also come to a class (see events tab for the next one) to learn how to help each other. AromaTouch Technique is amazing and you will feel the stress melt away into the background.

  • Citrus Bliss: I call this the Happy Blend. I gave it to a friend that was suffering from postpartum stress and her mood changed immediately. This blend is perfect to put in a bath after a long day. To make sure the essential oil gets well dispersed, add it to a teaspoon of honey, vegetable oil, or whole milk. then add the mixture just before stepping in. (This prevents the oils from evaporating before you get in.)

  • Lavender: Truth: we are better able to handle stress when we’ve had enough sleep. Lavender is a common go-to calming oil for a soothing night’s rest. Simply add a drop or two to the bottom of your feet or on your bed beside your pillow right before going to bed.

  • Sandalwood: Hawaiian or Indian - This oil is great to use during meditation because of its grounding and uplifting properties. There is definitely something calming about Sandalwood, I am not sure if it is because of the connection to trees I have, from ridding in the Vivian forest on my horse or if it is just its calming structure. Regardless of the reason, it helps.

  • Adaptiv: This blend comes in a capsule and an essential oil. It is full of great things to help the cognitive process. It truly think better when I use it. There have been a lot of studies on GABA and how it affects the brain. This has helped me and some of my friends.
There are other essential oils that help with stress, this is not an exhaustive list.  Also do not discount the importance of supplements. Good nutrition has a huge part in dealing with stress.

If you have an essential oil that has worked best for your stress, be sure to share your insight in the comments below. Everyone is different, and can feel more relief from different oils. These were the ones that made the most difference for me. You may find others work better for you.
